Practical Experience
Complex Business Interruption - Adrian is a chartered management accountant and chartered loss adjuster with wide ranging experience in the investigation, preparation, and negotiation of claims. As a claims consultant, Adrian has particular expertise in respect of direct and contingent business interruption (BI) losses in a variety of industry sectors. He has an excellent track record of settling the most complex of business interruption claims and has recently been involved in the successful settlement of two significant CBI losses.
Strategic Guidance - Working with clients to manage the claims process advising on policy coverage, presentation and loss quantification issues. Providing clients with strategic guidance throughout the life cycle of the claim.
Major Loss Planning - Adrian has developed pre-loss claims settlement protocols and has worked with a number of clients to develop, run, and quantify loss scenarios to stress test policy wordings.
Credentials
Contingent BI, Heavy Engineering - Damage to a key component in transit from Europe to North America delayed a complex build. Adrian provided strategic advice to track potential heads of claim within the client's project and financial management systems. The loss was restricted to increased cost of working expenditure only. Adrian worked with the client & engineering experts to prove the causal link between the insured event and cost overruns to ensure a full recovery was achieved under the policy.
Settlement Concluded within 6 Months - The policyholder submitted Property Damage and Business Interruption claims in the combined sum of USD 32m. Insurers declined the Business Interruption loss. Adrian supported the policyholder at a number of key meetings with insurers and their experts to develop a settlement strategy to optimise the insured recovery. Ultimately, working with legal advisers he structured a compromise settlement with insurers that proved acceptable to all parties without issuing proceedings. Settlement of this deadlocked claim was successfully concluded within 6 month of his appointment.
Strategic Risk Award for Innovation - Our client (BT plc) wished to develop a detailed methodology that specified data sources, axioms & assumptions, and prescribed an agreed methodology to be used to evaluate BI losses sustained, by revenue stream, in advance of a major loss arising. Adrian worked with all stakeholders to the claim process to draft a Claims Quantification Methodology (CQM) for each individual revenue stream. This process is to be reiterated until CQM's are developed for all revenue generating activities. BT won a Strategic Risks award for innovation in risk finance for this project.
Policy Wording Review, Rail Industry - Adrian analysed details of losses estimates, reinstatement time lines, and possible loss mitigation measures and reviewed these against a bespoke draft policy wording prepared by local market insurers. He identified a number of inadequacies and made recommendations which were used by the client to develop a policy wording that focused on the key risks identified.
Policy Cover Expert Witness - It was alleged that policy cover had been negligently placed by a small independent insurance broker. Adrian was asked to validate the adjusted loss, consider the adequacy of the Gross Profit sum insured, and the degree of under-insurance arising. As a result of his findings the plaintiff decided not to pursue their claim against the defendant and withdrew their legal action.
