Complex & Large Claim Settlement - Candy joined Echelon in 2003 after 13 years at Marsh/Sedgwick, where she was UK Claims director and head of Claims Consultancy. Working on behalf of multinational policyholder clients across a range of industry sectors and business classes, she has analysed and interpreted complex policy wording problems and managed and settled large, contentious and sensitive claims. Furthermore, she has developed considerable knowledge and expertise in all aspects of claims process and procedures, audit, operational and account management.

Effective Communication & Relationships - Throughout Candy's career she has built a reputation for professionalism and integrity. Her strong communication & relationship skills enable effective problem solving and dispute resolution.

Credentials

Fire at Key Industrial Site - Prepared, presented and negotiated a major property and business interruption claim arising from a fire at a key site. Candy provided project management resource across the clients business operations, freeing the insured to concentrate on their business operations and spend minimal time on the claim. She advised on coverage and the likely claim settlement, collected all relevant documentation from the insured's business operations and presented the claim in a format acceptable to the loss adjusters. She successfully resolved various problems arising from reinstatement and settled the claim promptly at conclusion of the indemnity period.

Hurricane BI Claims, Telecoms - Acting on behalf of a global telecommunications company, Candy assisted in preparing and negotiating several large BI claims arising from damage in the Caribbean caused by hurricanes Hugo, Marilyn, Luis and volcano eruptions.

Bespoke Claims Protocol - Developed and implemented bespoke claims protocols across clients financial lines portfolio. Candy worked closely with the client to compile a protocol to meet their requirements and negotiated with the insurers to obtain their agreement to the required claims handling methodology.

Best Risk Financing Product 2008 - Working in partnership with BT to create and deliver a pre-loss claim settlement protocol. This involved major loss scenario planning, developing an agreed methodology to quantify large loss values, and negotiate agreement for the agreed activities from BT, their broker, insurers and appointed experts. The quantification process was then incorporated into the policy wording, allowing the claims process of future losses to progress significantly faster to settlement.

Technical Claims Procedure Audit - A corporation was concerned at reserve increases across a portfolio of claims handled by its in house claims team. Candy's analysis indicated this was primarily caused by shortcomings in a number of key claims procedures and recommendations for improvement were made. This enabled the client to address the issues and improve its internal processes and resources.

Claim Settlement, Appointed after 2 Years of Claim Disputes - A local authority had been unable to successfully settle a large property claim. Appointed 2 years after the loss occurred, Candy evaluated the problem issues and prepared a revised claim. Most of the difficulties had arisen owing to inadequate and miscommunication between the involved parties throughout the claim period. She negotiated with the loss adjuster and insurer involved to obtain an acceptable settlement. Some time later, the client suffered a further loss and appointed Candy as adviser from the outset. The claim progressed smoothly and quickly to settlement with none of the previous difficulties or delays encountered.

E&0 & D&O Claim Recoverability - A European telecommunications company had a number of outstanding Errors & Omissions (E&O) and Directors & Officers (D&O) claims which were not progressing to settlement and appointed Candy to advise on recoverability. After reviewing the loss information and analysing the various applicable policy wordings, Candy concluded that policy coverage should engage and recommended various options to achieve settlement. This provided the client with confidence on the potential outcome and enabled decisions to be made on which option to pursue. Ultimately they chose legal remedy which proved successful.

Recovery after Claim Repudiation - A designer and manufacturer of pipe work systems suffered a claim which was repudiated by both professional indemnity and products liability insurers. Candy was appointed to advise on whether the claim was recoverable and which insurance policy should respond. She collated and reviewed all the contractual details and available information on the circumstances of loss and concluded that the claim was recoverable. She recommended strategies to progress matters, resulting in litigation against insurers to achieve settlement.
